Charles L. Rutenberg, 73, Cloverdale, formerly of Indianapolis, died Nov. 16. He worked for Perk Metal Co., retiring as a plant manager. Mr. Rutenberg was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Harrison Post and the Hurst-Collins American Legion Post and was a former board member for Cunot Senior Citizens. Memorial contributions: Cunot Senior Citizens Food Pantry. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Nov. 20 in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville. Calling: 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Survivors: wife Clara Ann Sorden Rutenberg children Lee Ann Carter, Mark, David Rutenberg 11 grandchildren eight great-grandchildren.

Charles L. Rutenberg, 73, Cloverdale, died Saturday at his residence.

He was born May 11, 1929 in Indianapolis.

On Sept. 22, 1958, he married Clara Ann Sorden, and she survives.

He was plant manager of Perk Metal Co., Indianapolis.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the VFW, Ft. Harrison Post, Indianapolis; Hurst-Collins American Legion Post 281, Cloverdale; Cunot Senior Citizens (former board member); and the Society of the 3rd Infantry.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Lee Ann Carter and husband Danny, Poland; two sons, Mark Rutenberg and wife Victoria, Cloverdale, and David Rutenberg and wife Rheda, Poland; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Evelyn Rutenberg.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville. Rev. Don Perry will officiate.

Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale.

Kate was a very independent woman. She played tennis and was one of the first women to drive an automobile. She later drove alone all over the country.

Her maiden name was Breslau according to the family tree book by Marge Brazer , info from Thelma Fletcher.

Born Sadie Kessler. I thought there was another daughter named Sadie as there was some confusion about Jeanette's birth date. The Social Security Death Index lists her birth date as the same as the Sadie Kessler that appears in the 1900 census. She seems to have shaved a couple of years off her age in subsequent censuses.

Marshall Kolko first married Rhoda and they had three sons. Rhoda died when the youngest son Daniel, was two years old. Four years later, Marshall married Helen who had two children from a previous marriage, a boy and a girl.

Jake Kessler was a milkman in Chicago for the Bowman Dairy Company with a horse and wagon. Milt Ruttenberg used to go with him on his Saturday rounds. The horse knew every stop and ran home after the last stop. Bud Ruttenberg looked like Jake Kessler.

Jack Kessler

Jack Kessler, 74, of 1221 Sherwin Av., died last night in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Kessler for the last 15 years was a clerk in the county treasurer's office, and was a member of the 49th Ward Democratic Club. Surviving are his widow, Jeanette; two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Snyder and Mrs. Shirley Meyers; a son, Morton; five sisters; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at 1300 Devon Av.
