Morris was born Chaim-Movsha Tatarsky in Ichnya, Russia, probably named for his mother's father, Chaim-Movsha Lifshitz. Morris arrived in New York on the SS Ryndam on July 11, 1906 from the port of Rotterdam, Holland. He was listed as Moische Tatarski on the ship manifest. In 1908 he was in business in Chicago with his brother Isadore in a confectioners business called Tatarsky Brothers. Morris worked various jobs including cigar maker, clerk, messenger and finally as a grocer, owning his own store. He became a naturalized citizen on Oct. 4, 1930 and changed his name then to Morris Samuel Tarson. Morris and Bertha lived in the same 2 flat building as Louis & Sophie Bein.

Solomon is listed on the Statendam ship's manifest as Salman Tatarski. He arrived at Ellis Island on Feb. 13, 1906 with his parents and his sister, Reva. The ship had sailed from Rotterdam, South Holland, The Netherlands. His ethnicity is listed as Russia, Hebrew; place of residence is Bialystok, age 14.

Sol lived in Chicago until at least 1917 working as a clerk and salesman. He ended up in Kansas City and was a family practice doctor. Charlotte remembers him always having a cocktail in his hand.
